Cartersville-Bartow County Chamber Strategically Planning for New President

The leadership of the Cartersville-Bartow County Chamber of Commerce is strategically planning for the next president and chief executive officer of the organization. The new professional will replace Molly Grover who announced her resignation in mid-November.

“Our goal is to make sure we have a clear understanding of the qualities desired by the membership and community stakeholders before we begin the search for a new president,” according to Gene Lee, 2007 chair and chair of the search committee. “In addition, we want to build a road map for the new person to have once they are on board. We feel this will make a smooth transition from the outstanding leadership Molly has provided us to the new professional.”

The first step in the search process will be to listen to the membership and community about the key attributes a person in this position should possess. A position description will be developed for the president based on stakeholder interviews with key elected, appointed, community and business leaders. The membership of the chamber will have the opportunity to participate in a web based survey for guidance on the top issues the president should address in the first several months in office.

“Our goal is to involve the membership as much as possible in outlining the types of skills a person should hold in order to be a solid fit for the chamber position and what the person should focus on initially,” according to Lee. ”This chamber is in excellent financial shape and our membership is at an all time record high of 1,400. The board’s goal is to move the organization to the next level.”

Once a position description has been developed, advertisements will be placed with state and national associations to seek the best qualified candidates. Personal contacts with potential candidates will also be a significant part of the effort to solicit resumes.
