(Evans, Georgia - October 2025)  Business and community leaders in Columbia County, Georgia, located near Augusta, have launched an executive search for the next Columbia County Chamber of Commerce President and Chief Executive Officer.  The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has recognized the business organization as a Five-Star Chamber.   The Chason Group has been selected to lead the executive search process.

The Columbia County Chamber is a member-driven, business-focused organization advocating for economic growth and prosperity across the Greater Augusta area. The county has become a model for community and economic development—blending business innovation with a high quality of life. 

Professionals applying for the position should have three years of executive-level leadership and personnel management experience with a Chamber of Commerce, nonprofit organization of similar scale and complexity, and/or business background with demonstrated working knowledge of business, public policy, community development, economic development, workforce development, event planning, and program development.  The Search Committee will consider traditional and non-traditional candidates.

The Director, Economic Development is responsible for all aspects of the Chamber’s economic development program and works closely with the Chamber President, and the Jackson County Industrial Development Authority Board, and the Jackson County Board of Commissioners. The Director will report directly to the Chamber President.

Jackson County is located just 62 miles northeast of Atlanta and approximately 20 miles north of Athens, Georgia.

Almodóvar most recently served as Development Director for the City of Acworth, Georgia, where he managed the city’s comprehensive economic development efforts—including business recruitment and retention, downtown revitalization, and public-private partnerships. Under his leadership, Acworth has earned the prestigious PlanFirst Community designation from the Georgia Department of Community Affairs and implemented a sweeping overhaul of its zoning ordinance and character overlay district.

​Economic Development Director for City of Brookhaven

Szarowicz most recently served as Senior Project Manager of Business Attraction at Invest Atlanta, where he led a project pipeline of nearly 80 initiatives, administered state and local incentive programs, and helped secure over $223 million in capital investment and nearly 5,000 new jobs in Atlanta between 2023 and 2025. He is recognized for developing data-informed economic solutions, strategic partnerships, and creative tools to streamline incentive modeling and community engagement.

Earlier in his career, Huffman was the founding President of the Alabama School of Math and Science Foundation in Mobile.

Rocker, who most recently served as Economic Development Officer for the Clayton County Board of Commissioners, has earned a reputation as a strategic thinker, passionate communicator, and innovative leader. Mitch Griggs Approved As President of

​Dublin-Laurens County Development Authority

(Dublin, Georgia - May 2025) Mitch Griggs has been unanimously approved as the new President of the Dublin-Laurens County Development Authority (DLCDA).  The announcement was made by Roger Folsom, Chair of the DLCDA Board of Directors and President and CEO of Med1st, in Dublin following a two-week vetting period required by Georgia law.   
The Chason Group led the executive search process for the economic development organization.

Griggs most recently served as Executive Director of the Union County Development Authority in Blairsville, Georgia, where he successfully recruited or supported 67 new business locations, created over 1,000 jobs, and attracted more than $99 million in private investment. Under his leadership, Union County also secured over $88 million in public funding for economic and infrastructure development projects.

of Valdosta-Lowndes County Development Authority

Ogletree (Niki) has been named President & Chief Executive Officer of the Valdosta-Lowndes County Development Authority, the organization responsible for driving economic development and business growth in the Valdosta-Lowndes County region. The announcement was made by Brad Folsom, Chair of the Development Authority Board.

The Chason Group (TCG) was retained by the Development Authority to lead the executive search.

Ogletree, who had been serving as Interim Executive Director for the Development Authority, brings extensive experience in economic development, strategic planning, and stakeholder engagement. She has been instrumental in fostering regional partnerships, attracting new industries, and strengthening the business ecosystem in Valdosta-Lowndes County.

"Niki has demonstrated outstanding leadership and a deep commitment to economic growth in our region," said Folsom. James McCoy Joins The Chason Group

(Cumming, Georgia - March 2025)  After two decades, James McCoy stepped down as President & CEO of the Forsyth Chamber of Commerce on February 28, 2025 and joined The Chason Group (TCG), a leader in executive searches for chambers of commerce, economic development organizations, foundations, and convention and visitors bureaus. 

“James’ addition to the TCG team of professionals will make a significant difference in bringing the newest trends and success models for economic development to our toolbox,” according to Tim Chason, President and CEO of the executive search firm.  “He will increase our capacity to lead more executive searches in the southeast which has been our focus area for several years.  His skill sets match our needs in several areas, including chambers of commerce and Destination Marketing Organizations.”

The announcement was made by Pace Halter, Chair of the VisitColumbusGA Board and Lauren Becker, Chair of the Search Committee. The Destination Marketing Organization retained TCG to lead the executive search.

Woitena is replacing long-term tourism leader Peter Bowden, who retired from the convention and visitors bureau at the end of 2024.

​Yarbrough has built a strong career in public affairs and government relations over the years, particularly in Gwinnett County. Most recently, he was Public Affairs and Political Strategist at Gate City Public Affairs, where he played a key role in shaping communications strategies and strengthening relationships between elected officials and community organizations. He has also served as District Director and Outreach Director for U.S. Congresswoman Carolyn Bourdeaux, leading legislative outreach efforts, organizing policy forums, and working closely with local governments to address key issues. Announces Steve Wittry as President CEO

(Jefferson, Georgia - February 2025) The Board of Directors of the Jackson County Area Chamber of Commerce has voted unanimously to name Steve Wittry as the next President and Chief Executive Officer of the business and economic development organization. The Chason Group led the executive search process for the chamber.

The announcement was made by Wade Johnson of Jackson EMC, who serves as the 2025 Chair of the chamber. Wittry started his new position this week. He is succeeding long-time and successful retiring leader Jim Shaw.

“Steve brings a tremendous amount of business and government experience to the leadership role,” according to Johnson. “He also has been actively involved in many of the initiatives the chamber and our members have been working on for the past several years. Those include infrastructure planning, transportation, and economic development.”

Kyle Ray to Lead Gilmer County Chamber of Commerce

(Ellijay, Georgia - December 2024) The Board of Directors of the Gilmer County Chamber of Commerce has selected a native of the community to serve as the president and chief executive officer of the business organization.  Kyle D. Ray, a well-known and respected banker in the north Georgia region, started his new leadership role last week.
 
The Chason Group led the executive search for the Gilmer Chamber.

Ray, who has raised his three children in the community, has been serving as Senior Vice President, Director of branch services for Builtwell Bank in Chattanooga, Tennessee.  He has also held senior level positions with the First Bank of Dalton, Bank of Ellijay, Appalachian Community Bank, and Santek Environmental.  He earned a BBA in Management and Finance with a concentration in Accounting from Kennesaw State University and completed many of his undergraduate studies at the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Tim Evans, CEcD Chosen to Lead

Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce

(Gainesville, Georgia - November 2024)  Business leaders with the Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce have chosen the new leader for their organization from within.  Tim Evans, who currently serves as Senior Vice President of Economic Development, has been approved unanimously by the Executive Committee as the next President and Chief Executive Officer.  The chamber selected The Chason Group to lead the search for the organization.
 
The announcement was made by Brett Fowler, of Turner Wood & Smith Insurance and Chair of the Search Committee; and Glennis Barnes, of Georgia Power Company and current Chair of the Greater Hall Chamber.  Evans will be replacing Kit Dunlap, who announced her retirement earlier this year after 26 years leading the chamber.

​Evans joined the chamber’s economic development team in 2005.  During his time with the organization, he has played a role in increasing annual investments from $50 million in 2005 to $2.4 billion between 2015 and 2023.  A significant responsibility he currently has with the chamber is working with the Gainesville and Hall County Development Authority.  He serves as Treasurer of the Authority.

Aundi Lesley Accepts City of Canton

Economic Development Manager Position

​​(Canton, Georgia - November 2024)  Aundi Lesley has accepted the economic development manager position with the City of Canton.  City Manager Billy Peppers made the announcement and Lesley has already started in the position.  The Chason Group (TCG) led the economic development search for the city.
 
“Economic development is crucial to the citizens of Canton and the community as a whole,” according to Peppers.  “Aundi has the skill sets and experiences we were seeking in an economic development professional.  I believe her collaboration mindset will work well with other members of TeamCanton.”

​Most recently, Lesley served as the downtown development director for the City of Rome, a position she had held since 2020.  Previous positions include main street director with the City of Carrollton and program coordinator for the University of Georgia Small Business Development Center.

Ryan Purvis Approved as Chief Executive Officer

for Development Authority of Bryan County

(Pembroke, Georgia - October 2024) The Development Authority of Bryan County has unanimously approved Ryan Purvis, a professional engineer and current resident of Bryan County, as the chief executive officer of the economic development organization.  TCG led the executive search for the authority.
 
Located in the peach state’s coastal region, Bryan County is home to the Hyundai Motor Group’s ‘Metaplant”.  The $7.6 billion factory will blend artificial intelligence, robotics, and human labor for a “smart factory” – putting the meta into a “Metaplant”.  

Purvis was previously a financial leader for Northwestern Mutual, a Fortune 100 company specializing in risk management and investments. Other positions he has held include vice president, engineering and construction, Continental Heavy Civil Corp.; and chief engineer and vice president of east coast, Industrial and Crane Services, Inc.  Purvis also served as project manager and structural engineer at Moffatt and Nichol Engineering.
